"We need to challenge the traditional notion that working in construction while pregnant is not feasible.

Through my own two pregnancies, I have shown that there is a range of activities which can be done without compromising one's safety or productivity during pregnancy."

In April 2011, Janine Miller joined Plan Group as an Electrical Pre-Apprentice, encouraged by a friend, a journeyperson of two decades, to pursue this career. Miller was inspired to prove that women can be successful in the construction industry.

While at Plan Group, Janine encountered another inspiring woman, Senior Labour Manager Jackie Easton, who has dedicated herself to motivating more women to enter the trades and demonstrating that, despite its male dominance, the industry can be a place of opportunity.

In her 12 years with Plan Group, Janine experienced two pregnancies, showing that the work environment can be a safe space for expecting mothers with the proper adjustments and a supportive team.

Janine's journey demonstrates the power of female mentorship, and we hope her story will continue to encourage other women to explore the trades.
