DAN MATTHEWS
Project Manager
"I love to think that what I'm working on will make a difference not only in Calgary but also in the province of Alberta and Western Canada region as a whole.
It makes me super proud and excited to be a part of something bigger."
Dan Matthews has always had a passion for working with his hands, which led him to pursue a career in the construction industry. Initially, he thought that engineering would be the best path for him, but after a summer job in landscaping during his first year of university, he realized that he was missing the hands-on aspect of the work. This inspired him to switch to an apprenticeship as an electrician, which allowed him to work directly with his hands and engage in the practical aspects of the construction industry.
After a couple of years, in 2018, Dan decided to join Plan Group to have the opportunity to work on the Calgary Cancer Centre project. This project holds a special place in Dan's heart because his grandfather was treated at the previous cancer treatment facility in Calgary: Tom Baker Cancer Centre, and the chance to work on a project that has the potential to change the lives of patients and their families was fascinating for Dan.
As the project manager for the Calgary Cancer Centre, Dan has been heavily involved in every step of the project for the past five years. From the initial empty land to the internationally recognized state-of-the-art facility that it has become today, Dan's contributions have been invaluable. The achievement of working on building one of the most energy-efficient hospitals in North America and one of the world's most technologically advanced SMART Hospitals makes Dan feel he is on the right track.
He has been a true asset to the Calgary Cancer Centre project, and we are thrilled to be able to count on him to help us build this facility that's gearing up to set a new standard of care and revitalize the future of cancer treatment as we know it.
